A man was taken to hospital with injuries, including a deep cut to his hand, after two men armed with a knife and a wrench kicked open the door of a house in Ipswich and attacked him, it has been alleged.

Asa Cook was in a friend’s flat in Post Mill Close when he heard a knock at the door, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

He looked through a peephole and saw two men he did not recognise and decided not to answer the door, said Phillip Farr, prosecuting.

The knocking continued and shortly afterwards the door was allegedly kicked open.

As Mr Cook tried to close it he was allegedly cut on the arm with a knife that was pointed round the door.

As he released his grip two men burst in and threw him into the bathroom where he was allegedly hit on the head with a wrench by one of the men while the other produced a knife which Mr Cook grabbed.

The intruders allegedly left with two games consoles, a mobile phone and a wallet belonging to Mr Cook.

Mr Cook was taken to hospital where he had treatment for wounds to his hand and arm.

A BMW with a smashed window was stopped in College Street and police arrested Michael Vincent, who was in the vehicle.

When police searched his mother’s home they found a games console, clothing and a bag which had Mr Cook’s blood on them.

Vincent, 46, of no fixed address, has denied aggravated burglary on October 26, 2016, unlawful wounding, having a knife and possessing cannabis.

Giving evidence Vincent said he had gone to the flat with a friend to help him recover £750 he had paid for drugs he hadn’t received.

He denied forcing his way into the flat or attacking Mr Cook and claimed his friend had hit Mr Cook with a wrench after Mr Cook produced a knife.

He said Mr Cook had dropped the knife and he had grabbed the handle while Mr Cook had picked up the blade.

He claimed Mr Cook told them to take cannabis and a games console as security until the money was repaid.

The trial continues.
