A MAN is recovering from a sickening attack in an Ipswich street which saw him targeted by a group of thugs because he refused to give them a cigarette.

The 49-year-old was on his way home when he was approached by two men and two women in York Road at around 9pm on Thursday.

One of four asked him for a cigarette but when he refused, they shouted at him.

He then went to speak to them but was punched in the face by one of the men, and the impact caused him to fall to the floor and bang his head.

He was then hit on the head by the other man before they all ran off towards Levington Road.

The first man is described as white, 16 to 18 years old, 5ft 8in, of slim build, with short dark hair. He was wearing a blue lightweight windcheater top and matching bottoms.

The second man was white, 16 to 18 years old, 5ft 8in, with a slim build and short hair which was a lighter colour than the first man.
