A 24-YEAR-OLD is currently recovering in hospital after being assaulted in Wivenhoe last night.
A man from Colchester was assaulted in Vine Drive near a parade of shops, by a group of four or possibly five young men.
During the incident, which occurred between 8.45pm and 9pm, the man was knocked to the floor and beaten - no weapons are believed to have been used.
Following the assault the man made his way home before being taken by ambulance to Colchester General Hospital.
He was than transferred by a special unit at Ipswich Hospital where he is being treated for multiple facial fractures.
Essex police are appealing for information and anyone with information is asked to contact Colchester CID on 0300 333 4444.
