A 28-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of his bag, mobile phone and wallet on the Sir Bobby Robson Bridge at West End Road in Ipswich.

The victim was walking from Russell Road towards Ranelagh Road between 12midnight and 12.30am today when he was confronted by four males. They were verbally abusive towards him before the 28-year-old was struck on the shoulder, knocking him to the ground, police said.

The offenders then stole a blue holdall he was carrying and a smaller black leather bag, along with his Samsung mobile phone and a wallet containing cards.

The victim was further assaulted and sustained cuts and grazes to his head, knees, hands and feet, and some items of clothing were also torn away from him.

Police need to trace the four involved who are described as white, in their mid-teens to early 20s and wearing dark sports clothing.
