A MAN was left with cuts to the head after a knife attack at a hair salon in Ipswich.

The incident happened shortly after 12.30pm yesterday at Media gentleman's hairdressers in Norwich Road.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports that a man had been stabbed in the head two or three times.

Officers arrived to find a 24-year-old man who had sustained “minor lacerations” to his head.

The man was promptly taken by ambulance to Ipswich Hospital, where his injuries were deemed to be non-life threatening.

The manager of the salon, Mohammed Ozama, was cutting a customer's hair when the attack took place.

Mr Ozama said: “The man was waiting to have his hair cut while I was seeing to someone else. I turned around to see him holding his head and I could see that he was bleeding.

“I didn't get a good look at the person who did it and I have never seen the victim here before. We're a hairdresser so we get a lot of people come through the door.”

This was the first incident of its kind at the salon according to Mr Ozama but the building has twice been the target of vandals in the last two years.

Mr Ozama said: “We had the front door kicked in a couple of times and decided to install CCTV in the salon to try and catch who was doing it. Perhaps it will help in finding who did this because I'm very angry about it. There are some crazy people around.”

Police are examining CCTV footage of the incident in the hope of identifying the attacker and are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

The attacker has been described as an Asian man, around 5ft 9ins, aged between 26 and 30 and wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

The incident comes only a month after a man was jailed for attacking another man with a pair of scissors on the same road.

Adeeb Alsugair,33, was sentenced to five-and-a-half years for stabbing Mohammed Mahmoud on Norwich Road in July last year.

The stabbing at Media happened during a week when knife crime is at the top of the national agenda and follows a series of high-profile stabbings in the country.

Ipswich's MP Chris Mole has said courts in the town need to get tough with knife criminals.
