A MAN was in intensive care today after being stabbed a number of times and then hit by a car in a north Essex coastal village.

The man, who was in his 50s, was attacked during a disturbance in Broadway, Jaywick, at about 6pm last night.

This morning his condition at Colchester General Hospital was described as “serious but stable” by doctors.

Police said that it appeared the victim, who comes from the Jaywick area, was attacked by a group of men, but that both he and one of his assailants were then hit by a red ford fiesta.

Two women and a youth were later arrested for assisting an offender in connection with the attack.

Detectives believe that that they know the identities of others involved in the attack and are actively seeking to trace and arrest them. These people and any others who witnessed the attack, or the incident with the Ford Fiesta, are asked to come forward and contact police at Clacton on 0300 333 4444 or to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
