Emergency responders save man stuck in mud near Shotley Pier

Firefighters, coastguards and ambulance crews were sent to help a man who became stuck in mud on the Suffolk coast today.

The man, described as a “young adult”, got into trouble near Shotley Pier around 2.45pm.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said the man was “stuck in the mud up to his knees and the water was up to his thighs”.

Nine fire crews were sent to the scene, along with coastguard and ambulance crews.

They worked to pull the man free by 3.30pm.

The man is not believed to have been seriously hurt.

The brigade spokeswoman said the incident happened to the west of Shotley Pier.

Fire crews were sent from Ipswich East, Woodbridge, Ipswich Princes Street, Holbrook, Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.
