PARAMEDICS were called to Woodbridge's swimming pool at breakfast-time today after an elderly swimmer appeared to have suffered a heart attack.

Staff at Deben Pool tried to resuscitate the man - believed to be in his early 80s - until an ambulance crew and paramedic vehicle arrived to take over.

The man was taken to Ipswich Hospital by ambulance.

A spokesman for Deben Pool said the incident had happened at about 7.50am and the pool emergency plan had immediately been put in place with staff using their first aid skills to assist until paramedics arrived.

“The man was taken ill and we did all we could before he was taken to hospital,” he said.
