A 23-year-old man was taken to Ipswich hospital today after he was attacked in the early hours outside a pub on the outskirts of town.

The victim, from the Felixstowe area, was punched in the head by a man police believe he had arranged to meet at a 1am rendezvous.

While the victim collapsed on the pavement close to the Churchill pub in Bramford Road, the attacker fled towards the town centre.

An ambulance was called to the scene at 1.35am and took the man to Ipswich hospital. He was seen and discharged by A&E with bruising to the face.

Today Churchill manager, Karin Hall was keen to shrug off the area's rough image. She said: 'The pub had a bad reputation which I've managed to get rid of. I'm fed up of people thinking that it's a bad pub. I live above the pub and I heard nothing.'
