YOUNGSTERS at Springfield Infants School could soon have a completed adventure playground thanks to the efforts of Ipswich man Roger Stone.

Mr Stone, of All Saints' Road, is all set to run in Sunday's London Marathon to raise money for an all-weather surface to be added to the school's adventure playground.

He has already raised £200 towards the estimated £5,000 cost and children at the school are also trying to pull in additional sponsorship.

Headteacher at the school Susan Knight said although the actual playground was completed in July last year, the lack of an all-weather surface meant it was out of bounds for part of the year.

"The children love it but sometimes they come back covered in mud after using it, she said. "With an all-weather surface, they will be able to use it all year round."

Mr Stone, whose five-year-old son, Callum, attends the school, said he decided to run his fourth marathon in aid of the project after hearing about the need for the new surface.

The school is also planning additional fundraising activities throughout the year to help it reach its target.
