RUNNER Sarah Wood is set to swap the streets of Ipswich for the streets of the big apple next week..
The 29-year-old is training hard for the New York Marathon in a bid to raise thousands for charity.
Miss Wood said: “I ran the London marathon last year and me and a friend decided we'd like to run in New York.”
The pair applied to take part and, to their surprise, were accepted.
Miss Wood said: “I didn't think we'd get in. I've never been to New York before and I don't know the course or what the weather will be like but I'm really looking forward to it.”
Raising money for Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, Miss Wood said she wanted to raise money for a disease she once knew little about.

She said: “Neither me nor my family have been affected by anything like muscular dystrophy. I saw a tv programme on the subject once and it got me thinking. I had never really heard of it until then.”
Miss Wood, of Fore Hamlet, Ipswich, said she wanted to raise money for a charity that doesn't always hit the headlines.
She added: “This year I want to beat my time and raise even more money. I've set myself a target of £3,000 and I have managed to raise £2,500.”
Miss Wood, who works for Axa has organised a number of fundraising activities including a car boot sale, a dress down day at work, selling homemade jam, a raffle and other donations.
She said: “I leave on Friday November 3 and come back home in the early hours of November 7. I ran the London Marathon last year and raised money for Help the Hospices and it took me six hours and five minutes.
“The time I was training for was under four and a half hours but I tore 2 ligaments in my ankle a month before. I'd like to run the New York marathon in under five hours but I don't know what it's going to be like until I get there really.”
The money raised will go towards providing support to the children, adults and families affected by Muscular Dystrophy.
