FURTHER evidence of the economic problems facing the country came today when Marks and Spencer reported its worst Christmas trading for nine years.Sales fell by more than seven per cent - prompting the company to announce the closure of 25 Simply Food stores across the country.

Sales fell by more than seven per cent - prompting the company to announce the closure of 25 Simply Food stores across the country. Two of its smallest main stores are also to be closed. The closures will lead to 750 job losses.

A further 480 jobs are to go at its headquarters. It hopes to save �200 million through the move.
