YOU are never to old to find love – as one Suffolk couple in their 80's has proved.

The couple arrived at Stowmarket Register Office yesterday in a taxi covered in ribbons and streamers for their wedding after a nine-month romance.

James Baldwinson, 88, and Joan Pointon, 87, from Elmswell, near Stowmarket, sealed their love with marriage vows at Stowmarket Register Office in a 20-minute ceremony led by registrar Jane Parker.

Mrs Baldwinson, a retired bookkeeper, said: "We were not nervous and it's been a wonderful day. The registrar was lovely and this was as good as a church wedding for me."

Her new husband, a former manufacturing supervisor, added: "We are very happy together and are very much in love. The service was excellent and we were both here on time."

The couple held a reception for close friends and relatives the celebrations continued at a party with residents at Hanover Court sheltered housing in Elmswell, where they live, followed by a honeymoon in Cromer.

Mrs Baldwinson's son Michael Pointon, a jazz musician and documentary maker, said: "My father, who died many years ago, would have been so happy to see my mother made happy again.

"This is wonderful. They are very compatible and it's so mice to see people enjoying themselves at this age in this way."

Mr Baldwinson's son David added: "This is a real surprise, but I'm very happy for them. It's really wonderful. She's so lovely and very good for dad."

The couple, who have both been widowed and share a deep love of music, both come from London and met when they moved to the sheltered housing complex.
