A drug addict who broke into a Suffolk pub’s storage shed and stole wine and spirits valued at £800 was caught 11 months after the crime.

Ashley Griffin, of Horseman Court, Martlesham, pleaded guilty to burglary at The Ship Inn in Blaxhall, near Woodbridge, when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

The 28-year-old committed the offence between March 10 and March 12 last year.

Prosecutor David Bryant said police stopped a Citroen Saxo on February 19 driven by another man with Griffin as his passenger.

On March 17 last year a fingerprint belonging to the other man was found on the storage shed. He was subsequently jailed for four months, the court heard. On January 24 Griffin’s fingerprint was also found on the shed.

After his arrest he claimed he had never been to The Ship Inn and had never heard of Blaxhall.

Griffin’s sentencing was adjourned until April 18.
