A MUCH-DELAYED new medical centre in East Bergholt has finally been given the go-ahead by planners.

Now doctors from the Constable Country Rural Medical Practice hope to be in their new, purpose-built health centre in Heath Road, opposite the High School, before the end of next year.

Dr Christopher Clark, an executive partner with the practice, told a meeting of Babergh District Council's development committee yesterday that the existing surgery was inadequate to meet the services GPs were now expected to provide.

He said: "We have been practising from a bungalow for 25 years and have extended it on at least two occasions."
