Fancy dress fun and sponge throwing at Hospital Radio Ipswich’s fun day in 1977

Patients have been tuning into Hospital Radio Ipswich for nearly 50 years and here we look back to one their big fundraising days held in 1977.
We sent photographer Paul Nixon along to the fundraiser, held six years after the station was founded in 1971, to capture the fun.
There was something for everyone, from dancing and games, to fancy dress and the soggy splash - which gave listeners and fans the chance to soak the hosts.
The station started from the Anglesea Road Hospital, later moving to the new site in Heath Road.
The registered charity, which is run by volunteers, is still operating today. The station broadcasts to all wards 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Did you attend the fun day, or do you recognise anyone pictured in this gallery? Perhaps you have memories of your request being played on the station during a stay at the hospital?
