TWO men have today been arrested following a road crash in north Essex which has left a woman fighting for her life in hospital.

TWO men have today been arrested following a road crash in north Essex which has left a woman fighting for her life in hospital.

The collision happened in Church Road, near to the junction with Highgates in Gosfield, near Halstead shortly after 9am this morning.

A white Ford Sierra and a black Renault Clio struck each other, before the Sierra struck a pedestrian.

The occupants in both vehicles were uninjured.

The pedestrian, a 56-year-old woman from the village, was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital where she is currently in a critical, life-threatening condition.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and are currently being questioned by road policing officers at Chelmsford police station.

A section of Church Road was closed for approximately four hours while forensic collision investigators carried out their enquiries and the cars were recovered.
