FOUR suspects arrested during a fight in Felixstowe involving at least ten men are on police bail today.

The quartet were taken into custody after bats and sticks were said to have been used as weapons during the brawl, which began around 7.15pm on Saturday.

It is believed the incident outside the Ordnance Hotel in Undercliff Road West involved youths and men of English and Lithuanian origin. Up to a dozen police officers were sent to the scene to quell the trouble.

One of those arrested is a 17-year-old male. The others are aged 24, 27 and 30. Police have said they all live in Felixstowe and were arrested on suspicion of wounding/grievous bodily harm.

After being questioned about the fight they were all released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital with head injuries, but was later discharged from hospital.

Eyewitnesses say the brawl began with two people outside Ladbrokes bookmakers in Undercliff Road West before moving across the road to outside the Ordnance Hotel.

Aiattin Demir, from the nearby Bodrum Grill House, said he saw one man brandishing a baseball bat.

“There were lots of people around but just a couple of them fighting,” he said. “It was quite violent. There was lots of police, three or four cars.”

One eyewitness said a number of men came running “half-naked” from the nearby leisure centre to get involved.

Police are still investigating Saturday night's incident and anyone with information should call 01473 613500.
