An appeal against a decision by magistrates to release two men accused of kidnapping and attempting to rape a woman in Rope Walk, Ipswich, last month has been adjourned until Friday.

George-Hari Constantinescu and Danut Gheorghe, both 29, from the Woodbridge area, appeared in court earlier this week and following an application by their solicitor Ipswich magistrates agreed to release them on conditional bail.

The prosecution immediately announced its intention to appeal the decision and the matter was due to be considered by Judge Rupert Overbury at Ipswich Crown Court today.

However Judge Overbury adjourned the hearing until Friday and the men will remain in custody until then.

Following the bail appeal hearing the next scheduled hearing of the case will be a preliminary hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on April 3.

The woman was allegedly assaulted on February 25 while crossing Grimwade Street and forced into a nearby car park.
