An Ipswich town centre road was closed in both directions for around 20 minutes while paramedics treated a man who suffered a cardiac arrest.

Emergency services were called to the incident in Meredith Road around 10.15pm and the man was taken to Ipswich Hospital.

The closure caused further traffic problems in the town following the earlier announcement that the Orwell Bridge would shut from 10pm due to high winds.

The bridge closure combined with traffic from Ipswich Town’s game against Sheffield Wednesday this evening meant increased congestion.

Highways England said the Orwell Bridge is likely to reopen at 8am tomorrow morning.
