Ipswich Town: Blues goal ace Michael Chopra today opens his heart to The Evening Star - and reveals the full extent of his gambling nightmare.

The 27-year-old striker says his addiction has spiralled out of control in recent weeks and months, prompting him to check into the renowned Sporting Chance clinic.

“You want to replicate the buzz of playing and scoring in everyday life,” said Chopra.

“I wouldn’t answer my phone, I wouldn’t be bothered about anybody. Once I’m in the bookies it is just me alone with nothing to think about.”
