MID Suffolk District Council has voted to spend nearly £2million improving its offices in Needham Market.
The council's executive committee agreed to spend £1.8million on upgrading the offices, which it says have had little spent on them in a quarter of a century.
It plans to take out a 25-year mortgage to fund the work and will rent out part of the office space to other public sector bodies to recoup part of the cost.
