MORE people are needed to serve as parish councillors in Mid Suffolk following elections earlier this year which left 60 councils short of members.

Many of the vacancies were caused by the resignation of existing councillors disenchanted with new rules regarding disclosure of personal details.

Many councils have now co-opted people to fill vacant seats but about a dozen parish councils in the Mid Suffolk district are still struggling to achieve a full complement.

They include Redgrave which has filled only six seats out of its eleven and Thrandeston which has filled four seats out of its seven.

Both councils had originally been given until June 20 to fill the vacancies but Mid Suffolk District Council decided to grant extensions to the end of August.

Philip Tallent, the district council's administration manager, said: "With 126 electors, Thrandeston is the smallest parish in the district to have its own council. If they cannot fill the vacancies they could ask us to make an order reducing the number of councillors."
