A MILKMAN stole nearly £1,000 belonging to his employers it was alleged at Ipswich Crown Court.

The court heard that Stephen Lewis, 36, pocketed £997 cash which he had collected from customers on his Dairy Crest round.

Lewis, of Henniker Road, Ipswich has denied stealing the money in January last year.

Saqib Rauf prosecuting said that after collecting £997 on his round Lewis had worked three more days but had not banked the money. Shortly afterwards he had left his job.

A Dairy Crest manager had visited Lewis' home and collected some cash and Dairy Crest books but had not been given the missing £997.

After his arrest Lewis denied stealing the money and claimed it had been with the other money collected by the man from Dairy Crest.

The trial continues.
