MILKMEN in Suffolk have made a very special delivery to a cancer charity - a cheque for more than £21,000.

The roundsmen, all from the East of England's Co-op Dairy, raised the cash as part of the MacMillan Milkmen Challenge by handing out envelopes along with their milk bottles and asking people to make a donation.

More than 60 milkmen from across the county took part, raising a grand total of £21,656 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Jenny Edwards, community fundraiser for Macmillan, said: "We would like to say a great big thank you to the milkmen and all their customers for their fantastic support and for raising such an amazing amount.

“With one in three people likely to be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives, the need for more specialist cancer care has never been greater.

“This money will help Macmillan to provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and help us as we push for better cancer care."

This is the fourth year that Co-op milkmen in Suffolk have helped raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Colleagues at the East of England Co-op's dairies across Essex and Norfolk have also taken part this year raising more than £45,000 in total.

The Suffolk milkman handed over their donation to the charity at the Co-op Dairy Depot in Sproughton Road, Ipswich, yesterday.
