A FELIXSTOWE mum stands to win £1 million if her nine-year-old son ever lifts the football World Cup for Scotland, bookmakers said today.

Sheryl Craig, 33, has placed a £10 bet with odds of 100,000/1 that Robert will hold the celebrated trophy aloft for Scotland when he is older.

She should have inside knowledge about her son's progress – his dad Alex is manager of the team he plays for!

Mrs Craig originally placed a bet at odds of 1,000/1 that her son would one day win a senior international cap for Scotland.

Bookmaker William Hill then gave her odds on a second accumulator bet that Robert would be part of a World Cup winning side.

Mrs Craig said: "He's got a great attitude towards football and I just got a feeling he had something, and when I get a feeling I usually act on it."

Robert currently plays as a striker for his local team, Felixstowe and Walton United, in the under 10s, and has ambitions to play for Ipswich Town.

His mother is English but his father, is from Dundee, which would make him eligible to wear the dark blue shirt of Scotland.

Mr Craig, 37, moved from his native city to East Anglia in 1988 with his job as a traffic operator and manages Felixstowe and Walton Under 10s.

Mrs Craig said: "My husband says it will never happen because Scotland will never win the World Cup, but I said why shouldn't they win it?

"I love Scotland and I want to live there one day. If I won the money I'd buy a castle."

The bookmaker said the odds on Scotland winning the next World Cup final were 200/1.

A spokeswoman for the bookmaker said: "The bet is for more than we usually pay out. But we have made an exception for Mrs Craig because it seemed like a good way of celebrating the start of the football season."
