For the wandering African grey parrot regularly chants expletives to himself, along with his name and a tuneful version of the theme to the Addams family, was last seen soaring in that direction.

Paul Mead, of Heron Close, Stowmarket, was used to walking outside with the bird on his shoulder but on the last occasion Homer – named after the character from the Simpsons cartoon – made the most of his chance of freedom.

Mr Mead said: "I miss him a lot. Life is too quiet without him as he talks to himself non-stop."

"He was making lots of noise in his cage last Saturday, so I took him out and put him on my shoulder as usual. But I stumbled walking through the door and he panicked and took off.

"He tried to land on a fence but then just kept going. He saw an escape route and took it."

Homer's vocabulary also contains the words hello, goodbye and get off, and he tends to wolf-whistle a lot.

Mr Mead bought Homer from a private breeder in Combs two years ago when the bird was six months old.

He is worried for the bird's health as it has a mineral deficiency problem and needs a special diet including milk and cheese to boost up his Calcium levels to prevent him having a fit.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of the parrot they can contact Mr Mead on 01449 615053.
