THE missing head of a decapitated man discovered in a lake has been found, police said today.

THE missing head of a decapitated man discovered in a lake has been found, police said today.

The decapitated body of 26-year-old Michael Gilbert was found in the privately-owned Blue Lagoon in Arlesey, Bedfordshire, last May.

A murder trial of several people is due to start at Luton Crown Court on Monday.

Mr Gilbert was killed some time between January 21 and 22 last year, although his body was not found until several months later.

Until now, detectives were unable to find Mr Gilbert's head, but today a Bedfordshire Police spokeswoman confirmed it was found in the Blue Lagoon on February 4.

She said: “A post-mortem examination has confirmed it is that of Michael Gilbert.''

James Watt, 27, of Chertsey Close, Luton, denies murder, familial homicide and perverting the course of justice.

His younger brother Robert, 20, of the same address, has pleaded guilty to two counts of perverting the course of justice, police said. He will stand trial for familial homicide and murder.

Richard Watt, 25, of Chertsey Close, Luton, pleaded guilty last month to familial homicide and one count of perverting the course of justice.

A charge of murder brought against him remains on file, Bedfordshire Police said.

The men's father, Antonio Watt, 60, of the same address, will be tried for familial homicide and perverting the course of justice.

Their mother, Jennifer Smith-Dennis, 58, of the same address, is charged with familial homicide and two counts of perverting the course of justice.

Richard Watts's girlfriend Nichola Roberts, 21, and his brother James's girlfriend Natasha Oldfield, 29, were charged with familial homicide and perverting the course of justice, and were also later charged with murder.

The headless corpse of Mr Gilbert, known as the ``Big Friendly Giant'', was wrapped in packaging and put in a wheelbarrow, also found at the scene.
