A MISSING dog which vanished from the beach at Dunwich last week has turned up safe and well – thanks to the Evening Star

Nancy, a 14-year-old Jack Russell disappeared last Thursday, starting a six-day search campaign, before re-appearing this morning.

Her owners, who wish to remain anonymous, offered a £1,000 reward for anyone who found the dog.

Not only have they been searching the Dunwich area on a regular basis, but also placed adverts in the Star and our sister paper the East Anglian Daily Times. In addition, they put up more than 20 posters to appeal for information.

Speaking from their Suffolk home today, Nancy's owner said the dog turned up out of the blue early this morning.

She said: "My husband was on his way to Dunwich when we heard that she had been found by a fisherman. She came wandering through the marshes shaking and looking dirty.

Nancy's owners said it was incredible that their dog had turned up after six days on the beach.

She said: "We thought she has probably wandered into a shed or a farm building. If she was younger, she may have tried to find her way home, but we thought she was lost."

"She's an incredible character, she even watches television, especially anything with animals in it. She likes to watch cartoons with animals in and will follow them around the screen until they disappear."

Nancy's owner's devotion to their missing pet is incredible – they even changed their living arrangements to accommodate their dog.

"We gave her a home when she was a just a year-and-half old. She lived in France for eight years, but when we came back to England, we wouldn't have her quarantined, so I stayed out in France. Then the pet passports came in and she could come back to England."

Nancy's owners said the fisherman who found Nancy would receive a reward for his discovery.
