Health bosses who closed a ward at a Suffolk hospital after patients fell ill with a “highly contagious” virus last night said 11 people were now showing symptoms of the virulent bug.

A spokesman for West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds said ward G4 at the unit remained closed to new admissions after patients showed symptoms of norovirus, which causes sickness and diarrhoea. In a bid to stop the bug spreading visitors were urged to was their hands thoroughly with soap and water and to stay away from the hospital if they had been unwell.
