It has been a night of heartbreak for England fans as they say goodbye to their dreams of reaching the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.

England were eliminated from the tournament by underdogs Iceland during a humiliating 2-1 defeat.

Passionate supporters clad in red and white came out in full-force in Ipswich, with The Gardeners Arms reaching its capacity of 600 people shortly after the match started.

Joe Plumstead, 24, said: “It’s a good atmosphere, this is a time where football fans from all different countries can watch football together.”

Despite cheering on his home country’s side, Mr Plumstead said his money was on Germany to take the title.

Kevin Rayner, 36, had been more optimistic for England’s prospects.

He said early on: “We are quietly confident that England will get through today. I have enjoyed the Euros so far because I have had a couple of weeks off work so I have pretty much watched every game.”

England manager Roy Hodgson resigned from his role after the game.

Iceland will now go on to play France in the quarter-finals.
