GET your valuables valued – and protected at the same time.

That's the offer from Felixstowe Crime Prevention Panel, which is holding a special antique valuation and fun day today .

"The day has the twin themes of safety and security and we are hoping it will attract a lot of people to come along and find out more," said panel chairman Barry Gillings.

"As well as all the emergency and safety organisations' stands, there will be a wide range of activities, including a bouncy castle, arts and crafts show, draw with a cycle as the top prize, competitions, and a barbecue, and so there will be something for all the family."

The day is taking place at Deben High School, Garrison Lane, from 10.30am to 3.30pm and people invited to bring along antique items they would like valued.

An expert will carry out the valuation for £1 and then the owner can have their property security marked and receive advice on keeping it safe.

Crime reduction officer Sally Scott said general crime reduction advice would also be available to help people safeguard their cars, homes, shed and outbuildings, gardening tools and other property.

"Both cycle coding and vehicle etching will be carried out free of charge, and road safety officers and crime reduction experts will be on hand to provide their expertise," she said.

"Representatives from various agencies will be there to talk about their work, so anyone can come along for a chat to find out more about local organisations which are there to help."

Organisations at the event, to which admission is free, will include the drugs and alcohol abuse group, Customs and Excise, St John Ambulance, Special Constables, Neighbourhood Watch, fire service, Victim Support, and the Felixstowe Coastal Patrol and Rescue Service.
