Suffolk police was today granted until 10.30pm tomorrow to hold the 20-year-old man from Woodbridge Road who was arrested following an investigation into the stabbing of a 19-year-old man in an alleyway off Upper Brook Street in Ipswich town centre.

The stabbing of Matthew Buckman, of Kesgrave, happened at about 1.45am on Sunday. Mr Buckman suffered stab wounds to his neck, face, left ear and wrist in the attack.

Police today applied to magistrates in Ipswich for more time to question the 20-year-old, who was arrested yesterday afternoon.

Following Sunday's stabbing officers appealed for help in tracking down two men thought to have been responsible for the attack.
