THE train now leaving platform two might not be the Marrakech Express – but a little bit of Morrocan magic has arrived at Ipswich station.

A new lifestyle shop specialising in gifts, interior accessories, jewellery and even cards from North Africa, has opened in one of four new retail units at the station.

Called Twenty 01 01, it's the brainchild of business partners, Jan Holm and Jenny Towell.

"I have been to Morocco several times, and brought home presents for people that have gone down very well," said Mrs Holm, from Colchester.

"I used to have a clothes shop in Colchester, but I was talking to Jenny and we thought there was a market for a shop like this.

"We're importing things direct from Morocco, I have a friend in Marrakech and I've just come back from buying new stock."

The shop opened early last month, and so far trade has been good.

"Much of it is from people passing through the station – we try to tempt them back when they're not in a rush.

"We've been very pleased so far – but it is early days."

The shop is open from 8.30am to 6pm Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and from 7.30am to 7.30pm on Thursdays and Fridays.

"It's busy during the rush hours but fairly quiet during the middle of the day – we are hoping to eventually open longer."
