Police in Essex are appealing for witnesses to a crash on the A12 which saw a man airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers were called at around 3.40pm yesterday to the collision involving a Yamaha motorcycle and a Vauxhall Insignia on the Colchester-bound carriageway of the A12 at Marks Tey, just before junction 25.

The road was closed for the air ambulance to land and for investigations to be carried out.

A diversion was put in place until the road reopened at about 6.40pm.

The motorcyclist, a 40-year-old from London, was taken to hospital.

The driver was not injured.
