Dozens of shoppers stopped to have a photo taken with the accident-prone and face-puling Mr Has Bean, a Mr Bean tribute act and look-a-like from Felixstowe, and his beloved Teddy in the Cornhill.

The Suffolk version of Rowan Atkinson’s most famous creation will be entertaining visitors at the fireworks display on Saturday, November 5.

Mr Has Bean said: “I will be bumbling my way around Christchurch Park to help the good people of Suffolk enjoy this fireworks extravaganza.

“Teddy is so excited. He can’t wait, and it will be an early night for him on November 4th.

“We very much enjoyed meeting and greeting everybody in the heart of Ipswich town centre to help support this amazing event, from the young to the elderly and people from all over the world.”

The fireworks display, organised by the 11th Ipswich Scouts, will also include performances from Just Jay Dance, Emma Dodd School of Performing Arts, Suffolk School of Samba, Tri Fire and Zahara the stilt walking witch.

Around 10,000 people are expected to attend the fireworks, which is now in its 45th year.

Ollie Arthur, one of the event organiser’s said: “So many people have come out to see Mr Has Bean. It’s been brilliant and hopefully we will see even more people now come along to the fireworks.

It is going to be a great night.”

New for this year is also an open air comedy theatre production of A Guy Fawkes Story, which will be performed in the Horrible Histories style.

The show, named The Catesby Catastrophe, is a historically accurate account of Robert Catesby and Guy Fawkes’s failed attempt to blow up the houses of Parliament in 1605.

Spookily lit grave stones creating a living cemetery with dancers, spooks, zombies and ghouls is also returning this year.

The family-friendly event will also include music, a funfair, fire performers, stilt walkers, samba bands and bonfires.

Visitors can enjoy food stands from hot dogs to hog roasts and fish and chips to donuts, along with a licensed bar.

Tickets are now on sale. Advanced tickets cost £6 for adults, £4 for children. On the gate they will cost £8 and £6 respectively.

Gates open at 6pm. The fireworks are due to start at 8pm.
