TWO knife-wielding teenagers mugged a man in broad daylight in the grounds of Suffolk College.

Suffolk police are investigating the incident, which they said happened at around 5pm yesterday.

The teenagers, aged around 14 or 15 years old approached their 17-year-old male victim as he walked outside O block.

After demanding money they pulled a knife on him and threatened to stab him if they did not get what they wanted.

When the terrified victim gave them his wallet they made their getaway, one on foot and the other riding a BMX bike.

Today, people around the college said they were shocked that something should happen in such a busy area at that time of day.

Kelly Crisp walks through the grounds on her way to work at the Co-op restaurant, as a short cut from her home near the college.

She said: "I had a day off yesterday but would have been walking this way at that time if I had been at work.

"It does make me feel very worried and I will probably walk around the road way from now on."

New part-time student, Dawn Webster said: "It is even more worrying when you find out that it is kids.

"You think that kids that age will be OK when you walk past them."

Graduation and awards ceremonies are taking place at the college this week and Principal, Dave Muller said that security would be increased while investigations were taking place.

He said: "We are currently in contact with the police but at the moment we are not sure whether it did take place on campus or not.

"We also do not know at the moment whether it was one of our students.

"Either way security is a concern as this is a very open campus and anyone can walk around or in or through it."

One of the teenagers who was riding a silver BMX was described as black, aged 14 or 15, around 5ft 7ins tall, of slim build and was wearing a grey hat which tied under the chin.

The other was white, aged about 15, about 5ft 2ins tall, of slim build with a shaven head.

Anyone with information should call Suffolk police on 01473 613500.
