Dane Jackson, 27, who uses a wheelchair after being diagnosed with MS two years ago, returned home from swimming at Crown Pools last weekend to find his flat, in the Whitehouse area, had been broken into.

Christmas presents including perfumes, clothing and jewellery for his mother and sister were stolen sometime between 2pm and 5pm on Sunday. His Xbox One console was also taken.

He has reported the theft to police and recorded a live Facebook video, which has had more than 23,000 views.

He said: “My heart just sunk (when I found out). The door was slightly ajar and they had broken in through the window. It was too much to take in. I was shaking.

“It is definitely in the hundreds (of pounds), what they took. Whoever did it is selfish and disgusting. Why would you do that to a disabled person who already finds it hard enough? I find it incredible. It was heartbreaking really. My mum couldn’t believe it and was very upset.”

He said wrapping up each present was a difficult challenge in itself due to his condition.

“They weren’t the best wrapped-up presents in the world, but they were wrapped up. I had been saving up for a while for them,” the former Kesgrave High School pupil said.

An online fundraising page has already raised more than £350 for Dane. Click here to donate.

He said: “The support in the last few days has been fantastic. Even strangers are saying ‘hope you’re okay’. I would like to thank everyone who has helped, in particular Jim Wedderburn, who has been amazing.”
