THERE is today just an empty space where Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men and Little Weed used to stand.

Jean Paton of Hardy Crescent, Ipswich, was left distraught after thieves made off with her treasured garden ornaments.

The 74-year-old, who needs 24-hour-care from her family, said: "I have felt really numb ever since. I can't get it into my head that they are gone. I haven't been able to take it in.

"They looked lovely out there and now they are gone it's just an empty space."

Mrs Paton's daughter, Margaret Paton, said she believes the three ornaments cost around £20 each.

Ms Paton, 51, of Burke Road, Ipswich, said: "My mum loves her garden and she fell in love with them. They have been sitting there for more than a year and now they are gone.

"She is not a well woman. She has diabetes, has had two cataracts removed and can only see out the edge of her eyes.

"I would like the people who stole them to feel guilty. Why can't she enjoy her garden without the risk of things being stolen or damaged?"

The ornaments were stolen from Mrs Paton's garden overnight on June 6.

Anybody who has information about the theft should call Pc Ian Rowland on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
