IPSWICH mum Denise Downing is today preparing herself to come face-to-face with the driver involved in the collision which killed her son.

Mrs Downing said she is filled with trepidation over the prospect of seeing the woman who has been charged with driving offences relating to Marc Downing's death.

The mother-of-three was told this week that the inquest into the tragedy in Cornwall will take place at Truro council chamber on May 19.

Mrs Downing said she has been told the driver, Hayley Matthews, will need to appear at the court hearing.

Mrs Downing will be supported at the inquest by her two other sons Asa 21, and Ryan, 20, who live in Kitchener Road, Ipswich. However she said she will still be emotional when she sees Matthews.

She said: "I will very angry and hurt when I see her. I am finding it very hard at the moment. It was getting better but hearing that news (of the inquest) was very hard to take and I'm dreading it.

"My family has been ever so good and ever so supportive. They are all hurting as well. It's the anger that turns to hurt."

Marc was certified dead after being taken to Truro Hospital following the accident which happened near Newquay while the 22-year-old was on holiday.

Mrs Downing previously said the family were told of the collision by Daniel Brown, one of the friends Marc was on holiday with.

He called from the hospital just 15 minutes after the former Westbourne High School pupil was fatally hurt in the early morning accident.

Devon and Cornwall police have said Matthews, 25, of Redruth, has been reported for failing to stop at the scene of an injury accident, failing to report the accident and having an expired licence. She is also due in court for having defective front tyres, having no insurance, no MoT, and failing to notify the DVLA of a change in circumstances.

She is scheduled to appear before Truro magistrates on June 2.
