Murder accused denied taking part in killing

IPSWICH: A man accused of being involved in the murder of an Ipswich woman denied taking part in the killing shortly after her body was discovered, a court has heard.

John Grimwood claimed he had seen 41-year-old Paul Clarke and a 15-year-old girl “kicking the hell” out of Rosalyn Hunt at her flat in Victoria Street, Ipswich, and had left the premises.

“He said he didn’t have anything to do with it,” said Karl Head, who claimed he saw Grimwood on August 10 last year, the day after Mrs Hunt’s body was discovered.

Mr Head told a jury at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday that Grimwood told him he had been at Mrs Hunt’s flat on the evening she died, but had left after seeing Clarke and the girl allegedly attacking her.

Mr Head said Grimwood was crying as he related what had happened.

Grimwood, 28, of Canham Street, Ipswich, Clarke, of Mountbatten Court, Ipswich, and the 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named because of her age, have all denied murdering Mrs Hunt in August last year.

Clarke and the girl have also denied murdering 41-year-old Des Thorpe, whose body was found at a property in Limerick Close, Ipswich, the day after Mrs Hunt’s body was discovered.

Mr Head told the court that Clarke had been in a relationship with Mrs Hunt and claimed he had seen Clarke hitting her with a dog chain on her back.

The trial continues today.
