Murder jury out to consider verdict

THE jury deciding the fate of Ipswich pair Lewis Carroll and Steven Lowe retired to consider their verdict this lunchtime.

Earlier Judge David Mellor told them that a pathologist's evidence is crucial in the case of one of the men.

Lowe, 24, of Spring Road, is accused of killing Phil Hoi Phat Lui in an incident inside Kartouche nightclub, Ipswich, on August 14.

However, throughout the three week trial at Norwich Crown Court the jury has heard conflicting evidence from pathologists with one being unsure as to whether punches to the head could have caused brain damage to Mr Lui resulting in his death.

Lowe is not accused of being involved in any incident outside the nightclub, but his co-defendant Lewis Carroll, 31, of Crocus Close, is alleged to have carried out a savage attack both on Mr Lui and his friend John Catlow.

Judge Mellor told the jury of seven men and five women: "Evidence given by the pathologist is crucial in the case of Steven Lowe. If you are unsure as to the evidence then that is vital in the case of Steven Lowe."

Also in the dock is Toby Woods, 24, of Cosmeston Street, Cardiff, who is accused of committing a violent disorder offence against Mr Lui.

All three deny the charges put against them.
