POLICE have issued a renewed appeal for witnesses to a murder after they released a suspect without charge.

The 43-year-old man had been arrested in August following the death of pensioner Richard Clarke in Eye.

Mr Clarke, 73, was found collapsed on his driveway in Cranley Green Road on the morning of Saturday August 22.

A post mortem examination revealed Mr Clarke had sustained a head injury and the death is being treated as suspicious.

The 43-year old man was arrested shortly after the body was discovered and had been released on bail for four months but detectives have now confirmed he is no longer a suspect.

A police spokesman said: “Police are renewing their appeal for information following Mr Clarke's death. Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Cranley Green Road area between the evening of Friday August 21 and the morning of Saturday August 22, and are particularly keen to trace anyone who drove along the road towards Occold between 5am and 7.30am on the Saturday.”

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is urged to call Suffolk Police on 01473 613500.
