A MAN who throttled his former partner to death in her own home and then hid her body in a downstairs toilet pleaded guilty to murder this morning.

A MAN who throttled his former partner to death in her own home and then hid her body in a downstairs toilet pleaded guilty to murder this morning.

Marc Chivers, 42, of Pitfield, Chelmsford, admitted the murder of 50-year-old Maria Stubbings, at Chelmsford Crown Court.

She was strangled at the property in Pitfield, Chelmsford, between December 15 and December 20 last year.

Senior investigating officer, Det Supt John Quinton said: “Marc Chivers killed his ex-partner, Maria Stubbings, in cold blood at her home address in Chelmsford.

“He then left her concealed body in a downstairs toilet covering her with coats and other household items.

“He showed no respect at all for the woman with whom he had a recent previous relationship.

“Chivers' guilty plea today saves Maria's family, friends, neighbours and other witnesses the agony of a trial re-living the events of last December, and means he has finally accepted his responsibility for Maria's untimely death.

“While nothing will bring Maria back, I hope the outcome of this investigation culminating in his admission of guilt at court today will allow them some closure and help them to move on with their lives.”

Sentencing has now been adjourned until December 14.
