MOURNING will be transformed by music and magic at a special concert in memory of two lives cut tragically short.

The fundraising evening featuring the Rivers Quartet will be held in memory of budding musician Kara Tournay-Godfrey, of Wimborne Avenue, Ipswich, who died from liver disease in June, aged 16.

The concert will also hold a minute's silence for one its members, viola player Peter Dolman, who died in tragic circumstances in July.

The 46-year-old married father-of-two was discovered hanging at his windmill home at Stanton Post Mill, Stanton, near Bury St Edmunds. A subsequent inquest recorded an open verdict.

A popular figure on Suffolk's music scene, he was also remembered at Saturday's performance of the Elgar's Dream of Gerontius by the Trianon Music Group at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook

The concert on Monday will be the first time the Rivers Quartet play together since their former colleague's sudden death.

New recruit Susie Mawson will be taking his place for a programme that will include musical tributes to Mr Dolman.

Liz Beaton, the quartet's violinist used to teach talented Kara the piano and still teaches her 20-year-old sister Jade.

She said that the concert will be raising funds for 'Kara's Room', an area with improved facilities on Bergholt Ward at Ipswich Hospital where the former Copleston High pupil spent her last few weeks.

"She was a very talented musician and hoped to do music A-level," said Ms Beaton, of Dereham Avenue, Ipswich.

The occasion has been arranged for all age groups. Entertainment with table magic will be provided by magicians Jim Cooper and Scott Penrose.

For more information and tickets, priced £10 (£5 for 16 years and under) call Ms Beaton on 01473 411604 or email her at liz.beaton@ntlworld.com. Ticket price includes wine and soft drinks.

Cheques for tickets or sponsorship should be made payable to Kara's Room, Bergholt Amenity Fund.
