POLICE still do not know the identity of a man killed in a road smash on the A14 in Suffolk on Sunday.

Three days after the elderly man died when his car was involved in a lunchtime crash at Rougham near Bury St. Edmunds, officers haven't been able to formally identify the him – and haven't been able to arrange an inquest.

Although they say they don't know who he is, they have had a request not to reveal his identity.

A passenger in the car survived the accident – but he has been so badly shaken that the police haven't been able to interview him.

The Ford Fiesta driver, who is believed to be aged in his 70's, died from his injuries following the crash at around 1pm.

A police spokeswoman said that Suffolk police are still investigating the matter.

So far investigations into the collision have revealed that the victim was turning his car across the west bound carriageway when he was in collision with a Volvo being driven toward Bury.

He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

An inquest will take place at a later date.

Police are appealing for witnesses to both crashes. Anyone with information should call 01473 613500.

A woman is in hospital today with serious injuries after a road smash in Suffolk.

The two-vehicle smash occurred at around 9.15pm on the A143 at Great Barton and involved a Ford Escort and Volkswagen Golf.

The woman, the driver of the Ford car, had to be cut free from the wreckage following the head-on collision and was taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds. Three fire crews from Bury, as well as police vehicles and four ambulance crews attended the scene.
