VILLAGERS face up to five months of disruption for a 2 million scheme to connect the community to the mains sewerage system.

People in Nacton will face road closures, including the main street, diversions and alterations to bus timetables while Anglian Water contractors put in place hundreds of metres of new pipework and two new pumping stations.

The project has been three years in the planning and preparation and residents will have to suffer pain before the gain of being part of the sewerage network.

Nacton Parish Council chairman Denis Leighton said the village was bracing itself for the disruption and the council was liaising daily with the contractors to keep problems to a minimum and keep everyone informed.

A temporary car park was set up for the playschool, and measures to ensure access for Home Farm, one of the biggest farms in the area.

“There will be alternative routes around the village, and The Street will be closed for some time and is being done in two stages,” he said.

“The village is not currently on mains sewage except for one small part which has its own system, so this will be an opportunity for people to be connected.”

Road closures are set to start on October 2 as excavations begin.

Most roads will be affected at some stage as the six inch main is put three metres underground.

The work is set to be complete by February.

Anglian Water said there would be “substantial disruption for extended periods”. Residential access will always be maintained.
