THE work of eight top and up-and-coming artists is to be featured in a special exhibition to be staged in a Georgian mansion on the banks of the River Orwell.

Sculpture, photo montages, prints and paintings will be among the work featured at the event, which is to be open to the public and will be free.

The exhibition is to take place at Orwell Park School, Nacton, from September 4 to 14 and all work on show will be for sale.

It is the first time the independent prep school has held the event and it will take place in its newly-refurbished Alston Room overlooking the grounds and river.

The aim is to bring to the attention of local people and the school community, which has children aged from three to 13, the quality and variety of work being produced in East Anglia.

It will hopefully also prove useful to the artists in making contacts for future exhibitions or for commissions.

Some of the artists are established professionals and others are recent graduates.

Work on display will vary in scale from three metres to just 30 centimetres, and each of the artists will show two or more works.

Those taking part are Ruth Richmond, from Bentley, whose work features bird paintings and prints; Stuart Morris, of Hadleigh, whose exhibits will include photomontage; Britta Polmuller, of Norwich, with flora paintings; Beryl Johns, of Beccles, who specialises in landscape painting and collage; Frank Hill, of Holt, with figurative paintings; and Bridget Oakley, of Eye, with some unsual circular paintings.

Sculptors Clive Earley, of Colchester, and Kieta Jackson, of Norwich, will also have pieces on display.

n The exhibition will be open from Tuesday September 4 to Friday September 14, weekdays from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Details from Laura Parnaby on 01473 659225.
