A national sports charity has launched a new tennis scheme in the hope hundreds of people in Ipswich will make a racket in Christchurch Park.

Tennis for Free has invested in a year-long programme of free lessons for everyone from players and amateurs living in the town.

Launched on Saturday, the charity has created the initiative in conjunction with Ipswich Sports Club just weeks before Wimbledon.

The club’s tennis coach and lead organiser Steve Joint said: “We are all very excited to welcome Tennis For Free to Christchurch Park.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for all members of the local community to get into the spirit of trying tennis for either the first time or to dust off the cobwebs and try again.

“The wonderful thing about this initiative is that it really is open to absolutely everyone regardless of age and ability.”
