AN ACTION plan designed to enhance the natural beauty of a Suffolk town, stimulate its economy and to improve shopping facilities has been unveiled.

Woodbridge has more than £600,000 to spend on various projects after the town and Melton secured £250,000 of Government funding under the Market Town Initiative (MTI) scheme, with the total is boosted by public and private sector funding.

Now residents have the opportunity to give their comments on the shopping list of projects – but they only have until Monday to register their views.

Mac Miles, chairman of the Woodbridge and Melton MTI Partnership, said: "One initiative that is already underway is the Woodbridge station forecourt where general improvements have begun to make it both more attractive and also more accessible for the public and coaches.

''We want to stimulate the local economy but while we recognise the importance of encouraging more job creation, we are also committed to protecting the visual appearance of the towns.

''We are not making the most at present of the riverside, which is one of our biggest attractions, so we would like to put up more information signs and offer guided walks."

People in the towns would also benefit from a commitment to set aside a fund to support new and existing community groups, a project aimed at young people, and the goal of attracting Citizens Advice Bureau and counselling services to the area.

Also on the agenda are improvements to Melton station and its car park, a shuttle bus service linking to the new major tourist attraction at Sutton Hoo, and improved links between Woodbridge and rural areas.
